Coastguard operation: Robber killed in Sundarbans

Dhaka – A ‘forest robber’ was killed during an operation conducted by members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in Supoto area of the Sundarbans in Bagerhat early Thursday.The deceased was identified as Sohel, second-in-command of Rubel Bahini, a gang of forest robbers.
The law enforcers recovered one single barrel gun, one air gun and 29 bullets from the spot.
Sources at the Coast Guard Headquarters said a Coast Guard team from Supoti station under Coast Guard West Zone conducted a drive on Choto Kotka Canal around 6:00 am on information that the forest robbers were collecting toll from fishermen.
As the coastguards fired gun shots, the robbers retreated into the deep forest leaving Sohel wounded with bullets.
As the fisherman found Sohel with bullet wound, they also reportedly gave him a good beating leaving him dead on the spot.
Later, the members of the Coast Guard recovered Sohel’s body. – UNB
