Commission’s final report on GB July 20: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday said the Grameen Bank Commission will submit its final report to the government on July 20 about the future structure and course of the bank. Muhith disclosed this replying to the reporters’ queries after the Cabinet Committee meeting on purchase in the afternoon.
Earlier, on Sunday (June 30), the government extended the duration of the Grameen Bank (GB) Commission by 20 days, as its tenure expired on that date.
The Bank and Financial Institution Division under the Ministry of Finance (MoF) issued the extension order, as the Commission is yet to submit its final report on Grameen Bank.
The Commission, set up last May, got extension thrice. It submitted an interim report to the Ministry in February last.
The four-member Commission, headed by former secretary Mamunur Rashid, is reviewing the purposes, legal status and operations of Grameen Bank and its 54 subsidiaries.
Other members of the commission are: Barrister Ajmalul Hossain, QC, and Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, FCA, and Director General of Planning and Development Academy MA Kamal who is acting as member secretary. (Source: UNB)
