Cop among six killed in road crashes in three districts

Six people, including a cop, were killed in separate road accidents in Savar of Dhaka, and Lalmonirhat districts on Thursday. In Savar, a bus ran over a police constable and a rickshaw-puller near Nabinagar bus stand area at noon.
Police said the Naogaon-bound bus of ‘Rocky Paribahan’ from Gabtali crashed into a rickshaw in the area, killing its driver Mizanur on the spot.
Constable Sohrab Hossain, 53, of Savar Highway Police Station and hailing from Sadar upazila of Tangail district who was on the spot, signaled the bus to stop.
However, the bus ignored the signal and ran over Sohrab, killing him on the spot.
Police seized the bus and arrested its driver.
A case was filed with Ashulia Police Station in this connection.
In Lalmonirhat, two people were killed and 44 others injured when a ‘Moitri Paribahan’ bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Kakina Baninagar level crossing area in Kaliganj upazila.
The deceased were identified as Shilpi, 39, and Belal, 11.
The injured were admitted to several hospitals.
In another incident, Rabbi, 7, a play group student, was killed when a Burimari-bound microbus hit him at Chauratari area on Lalmonirhat-Burimari road in Aditmari upazila in the morning.
Angered by the incident, locals barricaded Burimari-Lalmonirhat road for about two hours by placing logs and sticks, disrupting traffic.
Later, they withdraw the barricade after police intervention.
In Jessore, a man was killed and another injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a human-hauler near Picnic Corner in Sadar upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Indrajit, 40, son of Gopal Sarker of Harinarayanpur village under Islamic University in Kushtia.
Police said the human-hauler skidded off the road and plunged into a roadside ditch after the collision with the truck around 7:30am, killing Indrajit on the spot and injuring another.
Meanwhile, UNB Gopalganj correspondent reports: Mofizur Rahman, Chief of Gopalganj Polytechnic Institute Food Technology Department who was injured in a road accident succumbed to his injuries at Khulna General Hospital on Thursday morning.
The accident took place at Chandradigholia on Dhaka-Khulna highway on Wednesday night when a motorcycle carrying Mofizur collided head on with a human hauler, leaving him injured.
Later, he was rushed to Gopalganj General Hospital and letter shifted to Khulna General Hospital as his condition deteriorated. – UNB
