Committee to help protect fish breeder Halda river likely

An independent expert committee will be formed to help protect the Halda River, the country’s only breeding ground for carp fish.
The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting arranged at the conference room of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry to work out a plan to resolve various problems facing by the important river.The proposed committee will measure the upstream water flow of the Karanaphuli and Halda rivers during the dry season to find out reasons behind their slowing down water flow.
It will also give necessary guidelines to increase the water flow of the two rivers.
Presided over by Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammad Sayedul Hoque, the meeting was attended, among others, by Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, State Minister for Water Resources Narayan Chandra Chanda and acting secretary to the ministry Shelina Afroza. – UNB
