Condolence meeting on banker Lutfar Rahman held

A condolence meeting was held in the capital on Tuesday in memory of former Bangladesh Bank governor Lutfar Rahman Sarkar.Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd (IBBL) organised the programme at its head office at Motijheel.
Presided over by IBBL managing director M Abdul Mannan, the meeting was addressed, among others, by the bank’s vice-chairman Mustafa Anwar, executive committee chairman Eskander Ali Khan, BB general manager Quazi Saidur Rahman.
Lutfar Rahman, who served the central bank from November 21, 1996 to November 21, 1998 as its sixth governor, died of old-age complications at a hospital in the capital on Monday morning at the age of 80.
The speakers recalled the contribution of Lutfar Rahman to the socio-economic development of the country, including the banking sector.
A pall of gloom descended on all IBBL offices in different parts of the country following the death of Lutfar Rahman, who had served IBBL as its executive president and chief executive for more than six years.
Earlier on Monday, special prayers were offered at all the IBBL branches for salvation of the deceased.Meanwhile, executive committee of Public Relations Association of Banks (PRAB), in a press release, condoled the death of Lutfar Rahman. (Source: UNB)
