Condolence motion in Parliament for Chawkbazar fire victims

Dhaka, Feb 24 – The Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday adopted a condolence motion unanimously over Wednesday’s tragic fire incident at Churihatta in Chawkbazar in the city that left at least 67 people killed seeking peace of the departed souls of the deceased.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury placed the condolence motion over the incident that left at least 67 people killed at the beginning of the day’s sitting at 4:50 pm.
In the condolence motion, the Speaker said the Sangsad expresses deep shock at the death of people in the fire incident. The Sangsad seeks the peace of the departed souls of the diseased and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
She said the Sangsad also seeks early recovery of those were wounded in the fire incident.
The condolence motion was adopted unanimously as the Speaker requested the House to adopt it.
Meanwhile, the newly elected 49 women lawmakers from reserve seats who took oath on Wednesday yesterday joined session of the House.
Of them, 43 are from the ruling Awami League, 4 from Jatiya Party, 1 from Workers Party, one independent. The rest one of the 50 women reserve as per their proportionate representation in parliament. The Oikyafront where the BNP is the major partner decided not to take the oath and join parliament. – Staff Reporter
