Continue peaceful movement, Khaleda tells party workers

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday called upon her party leaders and activists to go ahead with peaceful movement until the realisation of demand for an inclusive election under non-partisan government.
This was communicated by BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah to journalists after he, along with two other standing committee members, visited Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office last night.Asked whether Indian ruling party BJP chief Amit Shah has enquired about Khaleda Zia’s wellbeing, Barrister Rafiqul said Amit Shah had conversation with the BNP chairperson.
Replying to another question about how long the blockade programme of BNP-led 20-party alliance would continue Miah said it would continue until the demand for an inclusive election is fulfilled.
“We hope that the good sense will prevail on the government and they will take initiative to hold dialogue to resolve the current police impasse. Otherwise, the movement will continue,” he said.
Responding to anther question Miah said Khaleda Zia was well now.
Asked if Khaleda was under house arrest, he said it is not house arrest but she was under detention.
The three senior BNP leaders have visited the party chief after nine day after she was confined at her Gulshan office on January 3.
The two other standing committee members were— former Speaker Barrister Jamir Udidn Sircar and former chief of Army Staff Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman. Later, Khaleda Zia’s adviser AJ Mohammad Ali also saw her. – Staff Reporter
