Speakers at a post-rally discussion said due importance should be given to cooperatives movement for materialising the spirit of the War of Liberation besides ensuring social security.
They viewed the cooperatives is the part of Liberation War and an effective means of attaining strength and prosperity in every spheres of life. So, there is no alternative to make the cooperatives movementa total success.Department of Cooperatives and District Cooperatives Union jointly organised the discussion at Safawang Community centre in the city on Saturday to mark the 42nd National Cooperatives Day-2013 with the main theme of ‘Social Security in Cooperatives’.Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the discussion as the chief guest while Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed, Rajshahi Divisional Joint Registrar of Cooperatives Ahsan Kabir and its Deputy Registrar Abul Monsur spoke as special guests with president of the union Monika Rozario in the chair.Chief Guest Badsha said wide-ranging expansion of cooperatives is very important for obtaining socio-economic development, self-reliance and successful institutionalisation of democracy.He said cooperatives always teach people how to organize, maintain
savings, to hold group meeting and identify the local problems and way out of those among themselves.Lawmaker Badsha urged the officials concerned to motivate and encourage the community people to form cooperatives so that they can get the path of improving their living and livelihood conditions. Besides, various government programmes like women and adult education,sanitation, uplift works and family planning could be successful
through substantial and sustainable expansion of cooperatives, he added.He called for strengthening cooperative movements at the grassroots,
enhancing cooperative loan schemes for small and marginal farmers, entrepreneurs and other backwards sections in the society. Earlier, a colourful procession, participated by officials and employees of different government departments, leaders and activists of cooperative organisations, socio-cultural activists, civil society members and local elite, paraded the city streets. –BSS, Rajshahi
