Cop injured in bomb attack, dies at CMH

Rajshahi – One of the nine policemen who suffered injuries after opposition activists hurled a crude bomb at their vehicle here on Thursday afternoon died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka Thursday night.Siddhartha Roy, a constable of Rajshahi Police Lines and resident of Kawnia upazila of Rangpur district, succumbed to his injuries at the CMH around 9:30pm.
Witnesses said the 18-party activists brought out a procession in the city at noon as part of their countrywide demonstration programme.
As the law enforcers tried to arrest them in front of Loknath School around 12:30 pm, the opposition men hurled a crude bomb targeting their vehicle, leaving the nine constables injured.
The injured policemen –- Siddhartha, Ananda, Shahriar, Majid, Asad, Raihan, Rafi, Sohel and Towhid — were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Later, Siddhartha was airlifted to the CMH in the evening as his condition deteriorated. He, however, succumbed to his injuries at the CMH.
Earlier, police arrested 30 opposition activists from the spot. – UNB
