Court denies bail again to suspended SCC mayor Arif Chy

A court here on Sunday further turned down the bail plea of suspended Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, now in custody, in the former finance minister Kibria murder case.District and Sessions Judge Mahbubul Islam passed the order after hearing the bail plea submitted by the accused.The Ministry of Local Government on January 7 suspended the SCC mayor as he was implicated in the Kibria murder case.On December 30 last, a Habiganj court sent Arif , also a BNP central leader, to jail rejecting his bail prayer.Nearly a month ago, the court accepted the supplementary charge-sheet filed against 35 people, including Arif, by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police in connection with the killing of five people, including Shah AMS Kibria.Ariful Haque had taken over charge as SCC mayor on September 18, 2013, three months after his election. –UNB, Habiganj
