Court to hear murder charges against Moudud, Anwar, Rafique

A Dhaka court on Thursday fixed January 6 to hear the remand pleas of Dhaka’s Detective Branch against BNP leaders including Standing

Committee members Moudud Ahmed MP, MK Anwar MP and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah a case filed with Motijheel Police Station for killing sub
inspector Md Shahjahan on May 5 in Motijheel area in the city.
Other two leaders are BNP Chairman Khaleda Zia’s Advisor Abdul Awal Mintoo and her Special Assistant Advocate Shamsur Rahman Biswas.
Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Magistrate Md Atiqur Rahman, passed the order after hearing on the remand pleas of DB
Police.
Police shown them arrested on Thursday in another case filed with Motijheel Police Station for their alleged violence in connection with
Hafejat-e-islam’s rally on May 5.
Earlier on November 8, Moudud, MK Anwar and Barrister Rafique were detained from in front of Hotel Sonargaon in the capital hours after
the BNP-led Opposition 18-party alliance sponsored 72-hour shutdown demanding a non-party polls-time government.
Later on November 14, another Dhaka court placed the five leaders, on an eight-day police remand. However, on November 17, the High Court
stayed the lower court’s remand order and directed the authorities to send the BNP leaders to jail.
On November 5, a case was filed with Motijheel Police Station. In the case statement, ASI AKM Azizul Haque of the Police Station said the
five arrestees along with 60-90 activists blocked the road in front of New Anar Bakery near Kamlapur Bazar on the second day of the previous
60-hour shutdown.
In another case, on September 24, Sub-Inspector Humayun Kabir Hawlader filed the case with Motijheel police station against 53 named persons
and 80-90 unnamed others. – Court Correspondent
