Covid-19: 25 deaths, 1267 new infections in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Dec 19 – Bangladesh’s Covid-19 fatalities rose to 7,242 until early Saturday with 25 more deaths in 24 hours.
The death rate stood at 1.45%, the Directorate General of Health Services said.

Also, 1,267 new Covid-19 cases were reported at that time, taking the country’s caseload to 499,560. So far, 435,601 patients – 87.2 % – have recovered.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The infection number reached the 300,000-mark on August 26.
The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 7,000 on December 12.
Up to now, 3,062,364 tests have been carried out, including 12,300 new ones. And the overall infection rate stood at 16.31 %.
Bangladesh is seeing 2,933.30 infections, 2,557.75 recoveries, and 42.52 deaths per million.
Global situation
More than 75.5 million people have been infected with Covid-19. And over 1.67 million people have now died after contracting the virus since the first cases were reported in December last year.
The global caseload stood at 75,790,260 and fatalities reached 1,677,594 until Saturday, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The US infection tally rose to 17,466,837 and the death toll stood at 313,672 until Saturday. The country is scrambling to expand vaccinations as rapidly as Moderna and Pfizer can churn out doses.
The US added a second Covid-19 vaccine to its arsenal on Friday, boosting efforts to beat back an outbreak so dire that the nation is regularly recording more than 3,000 deaths a day.
Brazi’s death toll rose to 185,650 on Saturday, and its infection tally reached 7,162,978 until Saturday.
India’s caseload reached 10,004,599 at that time, and the country’s fatality stood at 145,136. – UNB
