Bangladesh reported 29 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s fatalities to 6,609.
The death rate stood at 1.43%, said the Directorate General of Health Services. Also, 1,788 new cases were reported at that time, bringing the total to 462,407. So far, 378,172 patients – 81.78% – including 2,287 new ones in the last 24 hours have recovered.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The infection number reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll crossed 6,000 on November 4.
Up to now, 2,757,329 tests have been carried out, including 13,737 new ones, and 13.02% of the patients turned out to be positive. Bangladesh is seeing 2715.15 infections, 2220.54 recoveries, and 38.81 deaths per million.
So far, 3,540 have died in the Dhaka division, 1,256 in Chattogram, 402 in Rajshahi, 496 in Khulna, 219 in Barishal, 264 in Sylhet, 300 in Rangpur, and 132 in Mymensingh.
Global situation
The global Covid-19 cases surged past 62 million on Sunday, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
The number of confirmed cases across the world rose to 62,158,338, while the death toll climbed to 1,450,578. In the US, there were more than 13.23 million cases with 266,014 deaths up to early Sunday.
The number of new Covid-19 cases reported in the US reached 205,557 on Friday – the first time its daily figure topped the 200,000-mark. Its previous daily high was 196,000 on November 20, reports AP.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, India’s Covid-19 cases reached 9,392,919 as 41,810 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours. And the death toll climbed to 136,696 with 496 new fatalities, said the country’s health ministry.
Brazil registered 587 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the national count to 172,561. Also, the country reported 51,922 new cases at that time, taking the nationwide tally to 6,290,272.
