Covid-19 in Bangladesh: Daily infection rate rises, fatalities fall

Bangladesh saw a decline in Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours until Friday morning but the daily infection rate jumped slightly.
Eight coronavirus-related deaths and 406 new cases were recorded until morning. On Thursday, 15 deaths and 391 fresh cases were reported.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
The daily infection rate jumped to 2.85% on Friday which was 2.68% on Thursday, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
So far, 542,674 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed with 8,337 fatalities.
According to the latest figures, the overall infection rate stood at 13.83% which was 13.87% percent on Thursday. It is expected to fall further as a countrywide coronavirus vaccination drive is underway.
But the mortality rate rose to 1.54% from 1.53% on Friday, the DGHS handout said.
So far, 490,468 patients (90.38%) have recovered from Covid-19.
The authorities have tested 3,922,489 samples until today – 14,232 in the past 24 hours.
