The global Covid-19 caseload has reached 35,070,218, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
The CSE data also showed a total of 1,034,818 deaths worldwide. Besides, over 24.4 million recoveries have been recorded.
The US has recorded more than 200,000 deaths from coronavirus – the world’s highest official death toll. It has also reported more than seven million cases.
They include US president Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, both of whom tested positive for coronavirus on October 1.
With the second highest caseload, India has recorded some 6.55 million infections, with 75,829 in the past 24 hours, while Covid-19-related deaths have totaled 101,782, health ministry data showed.
India hopes to receive up to 500 million doses of the novel coronavirus vaccine by July, 2021 to inoculate about 250 million people, health minister Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday, reports CTGN.
“There’s a high-level expert body going into all aspects of vaccines,” Vardhan wrote on Twitter.
“Our rough estimate and the target would be to receive and utilise 400 to 500 million doses covering (200 million-250 million) people by July 2021.”
Meanwhile, Brazil is the third worst-hit country with 4,880,523 confirmed cases and 145,388 deaths.
Besides, Russia on Sunday reported 10,499 new cases of coronavirus, topping 10,000 for the first time since May 15, according to local health authorities.
Russia’s coronavirus crisis center said 107 more Covid-19 deaths had been confirmed in the last 24 hours, taking the national death toll to 21,358.
Britain had 22,961 more people tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 502,978, according to official figures released on Sunday.
The virus, which causes the respiratory infection Covid-19, was first detected in the city of Wuhan, China, in late 2019.
The outbreak spread quickly across the globe in the first months of 2020 and declared a global pandemic by the WHO on 11 March.
Coronavirus in Bangladesh
The confirmed coronavirus tally in Bangladesh reached 368,690 on Sunday after health authorities recorded 1,125 new cases in 24 hours.
Besides, total fatalities reached 5,348 as 23 more Covid-19 related deaths were reported during the period. The mortality rate is 1.45 percent.
The recovery rate rose to 76.39 percent, a handout from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
During the period, 1,587 patients recovered, taking the number of recoveries to 281,656. -UNB
