2 more suspects in Noakhali housewife’s molestation held

Noakhali, Oct 05 – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested two more suspects from Dhaka and Narayanganj in connection with the torture of a housewife after undressing her and filming a video of the incident in Begumganj upazila, sending a shock wave throughout the country.

The arrestees are Delwar, leader of notorious gang ‘Delwar Bahini’ and Belal.
A team of Rab arrested Belal from Kamrangirchar area around 3am on Monday and another team arrested Delwar from Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Narayanganj, said Lt Col Khandaker Saifur Alam, commanding officer of Rab-11.
A housewife in Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila was molested by some local miscreants at Ward No. 9 of Eklashpur Union of the upazila last month and a video of the barbaric incident went viral on the internet.
The incident sparked widespread outrage on social media.
Five youths, including Delwar and his associates Badal, Kalam and Abdur Rahim, molested the housewife on September 2. Police arrested Rahim on Sunday.
The accused stripped the housewife naked and beat her though she cried seeking mercy after tying up her husband at her father’s house in the upazila.
A video of the incident came to the notice of District Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Alamgir Hossain and he directed the officer-in-charge (OC) of Begumganj Model Police Station Harun Aur Rashid Chowdhury to take action in this regard.
There have been several rape incidents, including the one at MC College in Sylhet that have shocked the people in recent weeks.
A group of youths tied up a man and raped his 19-year-old wife at the MC College dormitory on September 25.
After police rescued the couple, the victim’s husband filed a case with Shahporan Police Station against nine people mentioning the names of six.
Eight of the accused in the case are currently in police custody and all of them confessed to their crimes.
The gang rape of an indigenous girl after robbery in a house in Balpaiya Adam area of Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila on September 27 also sparked protests. – UNB
