Covid-19 upsurge forces NCL’s postponement

DHAKA —The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to postpone the Bangabandhu 22nd National Cricket League for an indefinite period after the upsurge of coronavirus in Bangladesh.

“We have decided to postpone the NCL for now as a safety measure as the coronavirus cases rose in the country alarmingly,” the BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chwodhury said here today.

“We will observe the situation and if it improves, we will take further decisions on it. It’s a first class cricket and a good number of venues were used to hold the league. So we decided to suspend it now.”

The NCL started on March 22 and as of now two rounds of the league were held. The second round ended today after which the BCB took this decision.

In Tier-1, Dhaka Division is in the top position with 13.44 points while in Tier-2 Dhaka Metropolis is in top of the table with 12.18 points after two rounds.BSS
