Several cracks were found in the first floor at the newly constructed
Motihar Hall at Rajshahi University (RU).
Authorities of the hall relocated the students from that floor to
another yesterday after numerous cracks were discovered while they
inspected the hall.
Some members of the inspection team, requesting anonymity, said use of
low quality materials led to the development of the cracks.
Hall sources said, the reconstruction of the three-story building at a
cost of Tk 1.48 crore began in 2008 under the supervision of the RU
Engineering Department.
Though five years have been passed already, the reconstruction works
of the hall is yet to be ended.
On contacted, Motihar hall provost Jahangir Alam told that he was
unknown about the details of the hall reconstruction as he was
appointed at the hall few months ago.
The officials of RU engineering department inspected the hall and they
are well known about the next steps, he added.
RU acting chief engineer Shafiqul Hasan said they would find why the
cracks developed and go on decision for the next steps after
investigation. – Our Correspondent
