C’wealth women affairs ministers’ meeting June 17

The 10th Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting (10WAMM) will be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 17-19 June 2013 in Dhaka under the theme ‘Women’s Leadership for Enterprise’. The three day conference will start on 17 June.
Commonwealth secretariat confirmed the matter through an E-mail message.
The theme highlights the importance and significance of women`s representation in the economy and in decision-making processes, global financial markets, leading banks and national policy making bodies. Given that youth form 60% of the Commonwealth population, bringing them into the decision-making process is vital.
With Meher Afroj Chumki, newly-appointed state minister of women affairs, in the chair, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the conference.
International Federation of Business and Professional Women President Freda Miriklis will deliver the keynote speech.
Over three days, delegates will explore women’s financial inclusion, leadership for democracy and enterprise and priorities for the global gender agenda after 2015, which is the target date for the Millennium Development Goals and the Commonwealth Plan of Action for Gender Equality.
Every three years, Commonwealth Ministers responsible for women’s affairs meet to discuss progress and challenges relating to gender equality in the Commonwealth.
Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers Meetings (WAMMs) have been held triennially since 1985.
They have provided strategic opportunities for Ministers, Senior Officials, civil society organisations, and partner agencies to discuss critical issues in advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality. They contribute to Commonwealth and global agenda-setting processes. (Source: banglanews24.com)
