Cyclone Kyant triggers rainfall in Dhaka, rest of Bangladesh

Dhaka – Drizzles triggered by the cyclonic storm ‘Kyant’ disrupted the city life on Thursday morning.
The rainfall started early hours and is continuing till the filing of this report at 10:30pm.
Many streets in the city turned into shallow pools of wastewater while commuters faced problems in reaching their destinations due to lack of transports as well.According to officials at the Met Office, the rainfall started from early Thursday and continued for several hours across the city.
The streets in areas like Shahjahanpur, Fakirerpool, Shantinagar, Malibagh, Nayapaltan, Motijheel, Rajarbagh, Rampura and Badda, were hit hard by the rain.
Besides, commuters, mostly school- and office-goers, faced sufferings in the morning.
They complained that rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers charged them excessive fares, taking advantage of the inclement weather.
Meanwhile, maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked by the met office to keep hoisted distant warning signal No 2 as cyclonic storm ‘Kyant’ over west-central bay and adjoining area has moved westwards over the same area. – UNB
