DCCI voices concern over ex-FBCCI chief Mintoo’s arrest

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on Saturday expressed

deep concern over the arrest of former FBCCI President Abdul Awal
Mintoo saying that the business community will now feel insecure
following the arrest. “Dhaka Chamber thinks the business community
both at home and aboard may feel insecure following such an attitude
towards him (Mintoo). The Chamber is expressing deep concern over his
arrest and sending him to jail,” the chamber said in a statement. It
said Abdul Awal Mintoo is a renowned and reputed business leader of
the country, and he has contributed a lot to the country’s economic
development. “He has also taken part in the FBCCI-led initiative to
resolve political crisis through dialogue between two parties (AL and
BNP),” it said. The DCCI thinks that such an incident is unexpected
and it may create fear among the business community both at home and
abroad. It urged all concerned to find out an acceptable solution to
the political crisis through discussions. On Friday night,
plainclothes police detained Abdul Awal Mintoo, also BNP Chairperson’s
adviser, in front of her Gulshan residence. – UNB
