Dhaka – BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday said that democracy will be ‘restored’ in the country in this Bangla New Year 1423 bringing an end to killings, enforced disappearances and repressive acts, unb news agency reported.
“I hope the New Year will bring good days for the people of Bangladesh. I also hope, we’ll get democracy back this (Bangla) year,” she said.The BNP chairperson further said, “The country will be developed and peace and people’s welfare will be ensured (in this New Year). People will get rid of killings, enforce disappearances and repressive acts.”
Khaleda expressed the hope while speaking at a programme in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office. BNP’s cultural wing Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) arranged the programme, marking Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year.
At the beginning of her speech, the BNP chief greeted all the Bangladeshis and Bangla-speaking people leaving across the world.
Khaleda called upon all to get united forgetting divisions and misunderstandings among them to take the country forward.
She hoped that Bangladesh will be established as a country of peace, development, welfare and justice in the world the way Bangla has been established as language in the world.
Mentioning that now the most necessary thing for the country is democracy, she said, “Let’s move forward keeping hand in hand and neck with neck for the restoration of democracy. I’m sure the goods days are ahead.”
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, vice chairman Shah Moazzem Hossain, Abdullah Al Noman, and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvii were, among others, present at the programme.
