A housewife, said to be mentally ill, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself after killing her son at Purahata in Ishwarganj upazila on Thursday night.
Hasna Begum Swapna,35, wife if Marfat Ali, chopped her three-year old daughter Shayla and seven-year old son Minal indiscriminately with a sharp weapon before killing herself at her house sometime on Thursday night.
Shayla died on the spot but Minal survived. Minal was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
The incident took place when Hasna’s husband Marafat, a garment worker, was at his workplace in Dhaka.
Swapna’s brother Anwar Hossain told the journalists that Swapna was mentally ill.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed in this connection. –UNB, Mymensingh
