The digitisation programme has created a social renaissance accelerating development in every sector and making civic life easier and dependent on online digital services.
Launching of the union digital centres (UDCs) has turned digitisation into a part and parcel of common life and younger generations have become mostly reliant on digitised internet facilities.
“Digitisation has factually become the driving force to accelerate uplift in building a middle income nation by 2121 and, subsequently a developed Bangladesh by 2041,” said Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed.
The people are getting necessary information and services from UDCs and other web portals on agriculture, health, education, admission, legal matters, human rights, employment, marketing produce and many other fields.
“By virtue of digitisation, the people are also getting services like land related documents, composing, printing, scanning, emailing and talking to others at home and abroad using internet, webcam and multimedia projector facilities,” Ahmed added.
IT Specialist and Proprietor of DhakaSoft Emdadul Haque said many educational institutions are easily managing academic, administrative, attendance, examinations and results and accounts related activities using digital facilities at lowest costs.
Principal of Lalkuthi Girl’s School and College in the city Abdur Rouf Sarker said the digital facilities have made the admission process and other services for the students as well as commoners easier and hassle-free.
Associate Professor Dr Tuhin Wadud of Begum Rokeya University said the youths and students have become dependent on digital facilities as the process of digitisation has become irreversible making life easier in all spheres.
“The epoch-making digitisation programme has created a social renaissance to build a middle income Bangladesh, and subsequently developed country, as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” Tuhin added.
Students Shahidul, 19, Nurun Nahar, 19, and Aklima, 18, here said they are preparing to fill in their admission forms using online digital facilities for taking part in admission tests in public universities and other seats of higher education.
Senior journalist Rafik Sarker said a digital wave is prevailing in the northern region where students, youths, farmers, men, women, professionals, teachers, socio-cultural and NGO activists are easily getting e-services from UDCs and other e-centres.
“By virtue of digitisation, the country is swiftly achieving indexes of the Sustainable Development Goals, reducing poverty, producing skilled human resources, preventing militancy, terrorism, drug abuse, child marriage and other social curses,” he added.
Terming the digitisation programme as successful, Chairman of Northbengal Institute of Development Studies Dr Syed Samsuzzaman said many educated youths are earning well through outsourcing utilising digitised ICT facilities to add to the remittance.
“The educated citizens can not think life even for a moment now without computer and internet knowledge as the digitised ICT facilities have become a part of the social life,” Dr Zaman added, reports BSS from Rangpur.
