Director of Field Service Wing of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Dr Md Abdul Muyeed has directed the DAE’s field level officials to take early preparedness for facing any natural calamity to ensure successful cultivation of Transplanted Aman rice this season.Dr Muyeed passed the direction at a regional level views-exchange meeting organised by Rangpur regional office of the DAE in its conference room here on Friday afternoon as the chief guest.
DAE Additional Director Md Shah Alam presided over the meeting moderated by Rangpur Regional Farm Broadcasting Officer of the Agriculture Information Service (AIS) Md Abu Sayem.
The deputy directors, district training officers, additional deputy directors and horticulture specialists of the DAE from Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari districts under Rangpur agriculture region and upazila level agriculture officers of Rangpur took part in the meeting.
The participating district and upazila level officials of the DAE apprised Dr Muyeed of the ongoing agricultural activities, condition of growing crops and problems being faced by them and sought necessary directions for resolving those.
Dr Muyeed delivered necessary directions and suggestions to the field level agriculture officials for resolving the problems and issues being faced by them to make agricultural activities successful.
“During the post-liberation period, the agriculture sector, among many other thriving sectors, has attained epoch-making success making the country self-reliant in food production,” Muyeed said.
He said the DAE has been reaching the new agriculture technologies and crop varieties evolved by different agricultural research institutions and organisations to the farmers at the field levels successfully bringing a revolution in the agriculture sector.
He suggested agriculture officers to direct sub-assistant agriculture officers to assist farmers in making model seedbeds, sowing rice seed and seedling in lines keeping a space after every 10 lines and using perching methods for pests’ managements in every block during the current Aman rice farming season.
He directed field level agriculture officials to strengthen monitoring activities and prepare late variety Aman rice seedbeds on highlands and floating seedbeds in low-lying flood-prone areas so that there was no seedling crisis for floods, if any.
