A discussion meeting in connection with the 50th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Television (BTV) organized by district administration was held today in the conference room of Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur.
The discussion meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Md. Khalilur Rahman as the chief guest while Faridpur based correspondent of BTV Mantu Das Gopi was in the chair.
Speakers recalled the contributions of BTV in emitting news and presenting entertainment programmes in the country as the pioneer TV channel.
The speakers mentioned that despite limitations in broadcasting various types of news BTV is playing a prominent role to feed the mass people in the rural areas.
They said that BTV is still playing a dominant role in broadcasting different types of useful important information on agriculture and development information benefiting all particularly the peasants of our country.
In the field of entertainment BTV was on lead producing artistes of drama, music, in bringing up child artistes and presenting other cultural performances for the present generation, speakers said.
In the socio-economic development of the country BTV played most important role, the speakers mentioned.
The speakers urged upon the authorities concerned for the enhancement of the news credibility of BTV in these competitive days when a good number of private electronic channels are functioning.
BTV must take a positive stand for increasing the number of its viewers in these days because people are now more conscious to judge authenticity of news and quality of entertainment programme, they said.
