Disruption in RMG transportation to go in 2-3 weeks: Minister

Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain on Thursday said the disruption in transportation of readymade garment (RMG) exports caused by ‘violent programmes’ by the opposition is likely to end in two-three weeks’ time. “The buyers have voiced concern over the security of their investment due to the recent violence, and particularly because of the torching of Standard Group garment factory. We’ve assured them of 100 security to their investment after two-three weeks,” he said.   The minister was talking to reporters after a meeting with RMG owners and foreign buyers at Probashi Kalyan Bhaban.   The government is not currently enjoying full authority over the administration as the Election Commission plays the determining role before the election. So it must be admitted that they (buyers) have to remain a bit alert only for the next two-three weeks, he added.   “The situation will calm down after the period. The security for the buyers will be increased in the future,” the minister said.   The meeting was also attended by Labour Secretary Mikail Shipper, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Atiqul Islam. – UNB
