Dissident JCD leaders to resume demo Wednesday

The dissident Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders yesterday threatened to resume non-stop agitation in front of BNP headquarters if Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Sultan Salahuddin Tuku are not removed from their responsibilities as guardians of the organisation.
“A seven-day ultimatum to bring about change in the new committee of Chhatra Dal ends on Tuesday but response was in sight. So, we will observe non-stop agitation from Wednesday in front of party office,” said dissident JCD leader Tariqul Islam Titu at a press conference at party office premises at 3:30pm.Ferdous Ahmed Munna, former joint secretary, in a written statement however said they would not agitate further if BNP student affairs secretary Annie and assistant secretary Tuku are taken off their responsibility as selectors.
“Even we will work as general members of the organisation under the new leadership,” he added.
The JCD leaders, who did not get expected positions in the new committee, alleged that as part of their mission Annie and Tuku are implementing their agenda through formation of JCD committee with non-student, service holders and Chhatra League cadres to foil the future movement of the BNP by weakening the party organisationally.
Replying to a question, Munna said their movement is not to get posts in the JCD but to save the organisation.
He denied the allegation of government patronisation of their movement and claimed that those who tried to resolve the crisis are now facing harassment in various ways.
On the success of Mirza Abbas’s initiative to resolve the crisis, Tuku said Abbas is working relentlessly to resolve the problem.
Earlier, several hundred deprived leaders and their followers staged demonstration in front of party office demanding the removal of Annie and Tuku and bring about change in the JCD committee.
Nuruzzaman Linkon, Habibur Rahman Sumon, Shamsuzzaman Sumon, Ruhul Islam Moni, Ahsanul Haque Rubel and Monirul Islam Royel, among others, were present on the occasion.
