Department of Environment (DoE) on Tuesday fined two private hospitals in the capital Tk 2 lakh for dumping hazardous medical wastes without any environment clearance. After a hearing at its Dhaka headquarters, DoE director (monitoring and enforcement) Mohammad Alamgir fined Asian Cardiac and General Hospital Ltd and Millennium Heart and General Hospital Ltd Tk 1 lakh each for unsafe disposal of medical wastes. Earlier, the DoE had issued reminders to BDM Hospital and Diagnostic Centre at Mohammadpur and Al-Manar Hospital Ltd at Lalmatia for their flawed waste disposal facilities. – UNB
