Don’t push country towards civil war: Kazi Zafar

Jatiya Party Presidium Member Kazi Zafar Ahmed on Friday called upon the Prime Minister not to push the country towards a civil war.“Please start the process of handing over power peacefully by sensing the feelings of the people. Don’t push the country towards a civil war unnecessarily,” he said while addressing an iftar and doa mahfil at Tejgaon in the city.
“Change over of power a normal process of democracy. Otherwise, the ruling party has to face severe consequence if any unconstitutional situation arises,” he said.
The former prime minister called upon the government to come to a consensus through talks to avoid violent situation.
He said the ruling party would also suffer defeat in the general elections as their candidates were defeated in the just concluded five city corporation polls.
“The writing on the wall is now clear. The people want change,” he added.
Referring to the misdeeds, corruption, killings, incidents of disappearance and repression on opposition carried out by ruling partymen, Kazi Zafar said the government has been isolated from the people.
The elderly leader alleged that the ruling Awami League didn’t fulfil any of its election pledges.
The people have discarded them due to price hike of essential, deterioration of law and order, share market, Padma bridge and Destiny scams, he added.
He claimed that the Jatiya Party regime was a golden era and JP turned into an inevitable force in the current political situation in the country.
Jatiya Party Tejgaon Industrial area unit organised the iftar mahfil.
Presided over by Harun Patwary, general secretary of the unit, the function was also addressed, among others, by Anwara Begum, Dewan Ali, Haji Sirajul Islam and Md Saleh Ahmed. – Staff Reporter
