Dhaka – The Walton-DRU Media Cup Football Tournament,organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and sponsored by Walton
Group, begins Sunday at Shaheed Captain (retd) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium here after a long gap of five years.Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan MP will inaugurate the meet in the morning at a function to be chaired by DRU President Jamal Uddin.
Additional Director of the meet’s sponsor Walton Group FM Iqbal Bin Anwar will also be present on the occasion,UNB News Agency Reported.
Thirty-four teams of different print, electronics media, news agencies and online media houses, split into 16 groups, will compete
in the six-a-side competition, exclusively for the journalists.Nine first round matches will be held on the opening day (Sunday)
from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the same venue.Opening day’s matches are: Radio Today vs The Reports (8:30 am),Jamuna TV vs Channel i (9 am), ATN News vs Ittefaq ((9:30 am),Samakal vs UNB (10 am), Janakantha vs Naya Diganta (10:30 am), Kaler
Kantho vs BSS (11 am), GTV vs Boishakhi TV (11:30 am), Amader Shomoy vs RTV (12 pm) and Observer vs BD News (12:30 pm).All the matches, except the final, will be of a 20-minute affair with a break of five minutes. The final match will be of 30 minutes with a
five-minute break.The champion of the tournament will be awarded with cash prize money of Tk 40,000, runners-up Tk 20,000, man of the tournament and highest scorer of the tournament with Tk 5,000 each, most disciplined team with fair play trophy and the best players of every match will be awarded with Walton home appliances.
