DSE, CSE register loss Monday

Share price index at the country’s twin bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – suffered loss on Monday, the first after consecutive gain for six sessions in the last two weeks.   The DSE benchmark index, DSEX came down to 4751 points on Monday while the day’s turnover was also lower than on previous days. The DSE turnover on the day was also lower by about Tk 186 crore. Trading at both the DSE and CSE began on negative note in the morning on Monday, and ended the day with marginal loss after some ups and downs throughout the session. The volume of trade in terms of value was lower both at DSE and CSE on the day than on Sunday.   The DSE benchmark index, DSEX lost 6.75 points or 0.14 percent to reach 4751.61 at the close of trading on Monday. Of the 293 issues traded, 102 gained, 170 declined and 21 remained unchanged.   Most of the traded issues of the day included those from insurance, mutual fund, banking, Ceramics pharmaceuticals, Textile and Petroleum sectors.   Shares worth Tk 672.22 crore changed hands at the DSE on Monday against Tk 859 crore on Sunday, meaning the day’s turnover lost by Tk 186.78 crore.   The day’s top 10 losers at the DSE were Bengal Winsor, 1st Prime Bank Mutual, Monno Ceramics, Progressive Life, Glaxo Smithkline, ISB Islamic Bank, Pragati Life, Takaful Islami Insurance, 2nd ICB, and ICB 3rd NRB Fund.   UCBL,  Meghna Petroleum, Padma Oil, and Square Pharma were the top most traded issues at the DSE in terms of value while USBL,  National Bank and United Air  were the most traded on the in terms of volume.   The CSE key index, CSCX lost 17.01 points to reach 9342.81 at the close today. Of the 230 issues traded, 66 advanced, 144 suffered loss and 20remained unchanged. The value of the traded issues was Tk 63.74 crore on the day against Tk 74.80 crore on Sunday.
