DU double decker torched, 8 hawkers hurt in blasts

Eight hawkers, including two siblings, suffered splinter injuries as pickets blasted two crude bombs near the city’s New Market on Thursday, the 24th day of the countrywide indefinite transport blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
The injured people were identified as Jamal and his brother Hajari, Shahidul, Fazal, Simanta, Shah Jahan, Piar Hossain and Nazimuddin.Police and sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said pickets exploded a crude bomb near New Market’s gate No-2 around 5:45pm, leaving six hawkers injured with splinters.
Another bomb went off near its gate No-4 almost simultaneously, leaving two others injured.
The victims were taken to the DMCH.
Meanwhile a double-decker bus of Dhaka University was torched at Chankharpool in the capital on Thursday, the 24th day of the nationwide non-stop transport blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party combine.
Suspected pickets set the bus afire near Chankharpool intersection around 2:40pm and ran away, said Fire Service sources.
On information, fire fighters rushed in and doused the blaze.  However, no one was injured in the arson attack. – UNB
