DU suspends professor for ‘derogatory remarks’ about Bangabandhu

The Dhaka University authorities have suspended Morshed Hasan Khan, a professor of the marketing department, for making ‘ill remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and distorting the history of the liberation war’.DU vice chancellor Md Akhteruzzaman confirmed this to Prothom Alo on Monday.

In an article published in a national daily on the Independence Day, professor Morshed wrote that former president Ziaur Rahman had proclaimed the independence.He also wrote that most of the Awami League leaders then escaped the country with their families.The teacher later apologised for his remarks in another article published in the same daily.

Ruling Bangladesh Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) had been demanding his removal since then.Acting VC professor Nasrin Ahmed had said a decision would be taken when the VC returns from abroad and the move was made on Monday following his homecoming.
