A special session of Dhaka University Senate will be held on August 24 to nominate a three-member panel for appointing vice-chancellor to the premier public university.Some 55 Senate members will cast their votes in the election to the DU vice-chancellor panel. Although there are 105 seats in the Senate, 50 of them are currently lying vacant.
DU Deputy Registrar Mohammad Moniruzzaman told UNB over phone that the panel election will be held under Article 11(1) of the Dhaka University Ordinance 1973.
Later, the DU chancellor will appoint one of the panel members as the VC of the university.
Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique was elected DU VC on January 15, 2009.
