Supreme Court lawyer Golam Nabi and Mohammad Alamgir Hossain sent the legal notice to the Local Government secretary, the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner on Thursday.
According to the notice, the government has divided Dhaka City Corporation into two administrative zones — Dhaka North and Dhaka South.
It also said under section 34 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act-2009 election shall be held within 180 days after the establishment. But the polls in Dhaka North and South are yet to be held.
Earlier on November 29, 2011, ignoring widespread criticism and protests, parliament enacted a law bifurcating Dhaka City Corporation into two administrative zones. Since then, the government has been running the two DCCs by appointing administrators.
