Premier University in Chittagong has been closed for an indefinite period following the death of a student in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League at the university on Tuesday, UNB news agency reported.
The authorities took the decision to avert further trouble, said registrar M Abu Taher.
Officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar police station Aziz Ahmed, said a rehearsal for the fresher reception of BBA 31st batch was under way on the Dampara campus of the university.
During the rehearsal, two BCL groups locked into an altercation around 1:30pm over a trifling matter. A scuffle took place between them.

The injured — Imtiaz and Rony Chandra Sheel — were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Later, a group of BCL activists went on the rampage and vandalised around 50 vehicles in several points of the city, including GEC intersection, New Market, Prabartak intersection and Bahaddarhat, protesting at the killing of Nasim.
