Research-based development organisation Incidin Bangladesh has stressed for effective initiatives of the local government bodies on safety, security and rights of the children to save them from repression.
The call was made at a press conference arranged by the organisation here on Wednesday afternoon to disclose research findings on vulnerability, safety and security of the children and repression and torture being experienced by them in the society. Operational Chief of Incidin Bangladesh Musfikur Rahman presented keynote paper on research findings of the organisation on the issues in the press conference arranged with the assistance of Save the Children and European Union. Officials of the research-based organisation also attended the press conference participated by the local journalists working in the print, electronic and online media. Musfikur Rahman said the children, belonging to poorer families, streets children, physically challenged and underprivileged children, have been living under adverse and vulnerable situations and becoming victims of torture, abuse and exploitation. The vulnerable group children are being subjected to neglect, deprivation, discrimination, physical, mental and sexual abuse and torture, trafficking, exploitation, drug addiction and engaged in begging, commercial sex etc, he said. He said the pro-children initiatives taken so far by the government and non-government organisations for overcoming the situation were found to be inadequate for ensuring safety and security of the children for their normal growth under congenial atmosphere. Under the situation, planning and adoption of the community- based and time-befitting strategies by the local government bodies might be very effective to eradicate these social menaces for ensuring safety and security of the children, he said. Expressing solidarity with proposals of Incidin Bangladesh, the media workers suggested for building up community-based leadership involving local people to ensure safety and security of the children under the umbrella of the state and government. They asked for working out strategies by city corporations, upazila and union parishads for proper implementation of Child Security Act 2013, Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000 and Pornography Control Act 2012 to ensure safety and security of children.- BSS, Rangpur
