Eid-e-Miladunnabi observed in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Dec 2 – Holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the day of birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh), was observed in the country on Saturday with due religious solemnity. On this day in 570, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Muhammad was born in Makkah of Saudi Arabia with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind. He also passed away on the same day.
The day is a public holiday.
Various religious, socio-cultural and political organisations, including Islamic Foundation, observed the day with elaborate programmes, including discussions and Milad mahfil.
Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels telecasted special programmes while newspapers published special articles highlighting the significance of the day.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia issued separate messages greeting the country’s people and the Muslim Ummah.
President Abdul Hamid hosted Milad mahfil at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban after Zohr prayers.
Acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, diplomats of different Muslim countries, Members of the Parliament, political leaders and high civil and military officials also attended the Milad mahfil.
Pesh Imam of Bangabhaban Jame Mosque Maulana Saiful Kabir conducted munajat after the milad mahfil.
