Eid shopping is gaining momentum in Narsingdi with the holy Eid-ul-Fir
drawing nearer.
People from all walks of life are rushing to the markets of the town
to buy items of their choice for their nearest and dearest ones daily.
Shoppers are seen very busy from morning to midnight everyday
selling their goods.
The leading super markets, including Islam Plaza, Besal Shopping
Center, Noin Tara Plaza, Index Plaza, Hm Plaza and Sharif manson are
decorated with special gates and banners and illuminated to draw the
attention of buyers.
The most crowded markets of the town are Noin Tar Plaza, Index Plaza,
Sharif Manson, Habib Market, Kalo Miha Market and Monsi Neaz Market
where the people of the lower income group are seen very busy
purchasing different things like saris, punjabis, children’s dresses,
cosmetics and shoes.
Footpaths of the main roads as well as the alleys are also occupied by
the hawkers selling various items ahead of the Eid festival.
Swapon Kumar Sarker, owner of Shibani, a cloth shop of the Station
Road, said The demand for cotton saris is still high in the markets
and it’s easy to sell saris, as their prices do not vary much.
Maksuda Akter a housewife from Rashulpur, said I purchased a set of
three piece dress at Tk 550 from Monsi Neaz Market, but the same piece
is sold at defferent super market shops at Tk 600 to 700.
A good number of boutique shops were set up by woman entrepreneurs in
residential areas of the town to sell their handmade products. But
they could not yet be able to attract the general customers due to
high prices.
Young boys in residential areas of the town have also set up stalls to
sell view cards. Boys and girls are buying greeting cards at cheap
prices from these stalls.  – Our Correspondent
