Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has created job
opportunities for 140 destitute rural women of Narsingdi Sadar upazla
under the ‘Rural Employment and Road Maintenance Project’ (RERMP).
During the last five years, each of these destitute women deposited
Tk. 92,240,000 from their income, sources in the LGED office,
Narsingdi Sadar upazila said.
The sources added that the project was launched in 2008 by the
government in order to create job facility for the destitute rural
women and 140 women of 14 unions of the sadar upazila were employed
for the maintenance of roads.
They were also imparted training on different methods of self
employment like cow rearing and sewing under the project, the sources
further added. At the completion of the project, they are now getting
back their deposit money.
The cheques of the deposited money were handed over to 140 women of 14
unions of Narsingdi sadar upazila parishad in a function held at the
conference room of the Sadar upazila parishad hall room on 28 July
(Sunday). Each of the women received Tk 66000.
Local lawmaker of Narsingdi Sadar Lt colonel (retd) Nazrul Islam Hiro
(Birpratik) attended the function as chief guest with Md. Anisur
Rahman Mondal, upazila engineer Narsingdi Sadar in the chair. Among
others Executive engineer of LGED Md. Salim Miah and Sadar upazla
Nirbahi officer Venisa Robridgues addressed in the function.
The MP said now these destitute women can create employment for
themselves with the money they deposited during the last five years.
