Elderly man killed over land in Thakurgaon

Dhaka -An elderly man was killed in a clash ensuing from at arbitration meeting over a land-related dispute at Akannopur village in Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon on Saturday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Abu Taher Kalu, 65, son of late Moshir Uddin, a resident of the village,UNB News Agency Reported.
KM Shawkat, officer-in-charge of Pirganj Police Station, said there had been a longstanding dispute between Abu Taher and his brother over the ownership of a piece of land.To settle the issue, both the groups sat in an arbitration meeting at Baganbari Haat at the village in the afternoon.At one stage, a pandemonium broke out at the meeting over the disputed issue and the two groups locked in a clash that left Abu Taher critically injured.Later he was rushed to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead around 5pm.
