Eminent citizens in a joint statement on Monday condemned the recent attack on the residence Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, Secretary of civil right organisation, Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik and demanded immediate punishment of the perpetuators.
The 38 signatories that include, among others, ex caretaker government advisor M Hafizuddin Khan, eminent jurist Dr Shahdeen Malik, Prof Anu Mohammad, Dr Hamida Hossain, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Sheepa Hafiza, and Khushi Kabir, stated that the attack took place after a dinner programme arranged at his home by Dr Majumdar on Saturday in honour of outgoing US envoy.
After finishing the dinner, when US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat was going out from Shujan secretary’s house around 11 pm, a gang of miscreants attacked the envoy’s vehicle and assaulted Dr Majumdar’s son Dr Mahbub Majumdar, national coach of Mathematics Olympiad, noted the eminent citizens.
The attackers also smashed window glasses of his residence and attempted to make force entry into the house.
