“Justice should prevail”, a European Union delegation in Dhaka says while expressing concerns over Bangladesh’s human rights situation.
Ambassador William Hanna, the head of the delegation, also renewed call for dialogue between major parties to solve political crisis as he believes trade, investment, development and political conditions “all are interlinked”.
Hanna was briefing journalists flanked by the eight EU countries’ envoys, who have permanent missions in Dhaka, on Thursday, a day before ‘Europe Day’.But political as well as human rights situation dominated journalists questions to them in the context of recent abduction and killing of seven people in Narayanganj, including a City Councillor and a lawyer.
The EU delegation did not make comment on any specific issue, but said they had expressed their concerns and stated that all human rights violation and extrajudicial killing cases should be “properly investigated and brought to justice”.
“It’s very important that justice should prevail and rule of law is very important for the life of people,” Hanna said.
The EU celebrates May 9 as ‘Europe Day’ as on that day in 1950 Robert Schumann, the foreign minister of France, made a declaration which laid the foundations of today’s 28 countries bloc.
