Leaders of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and All-Party Student Unity of nineties yesterday said that they would take oath to hasten fall of the government within a short span of time.
“We want to take oath under the leadership of Khaleda Zia to force the government to quit within shortest possible time and shall return home after its fall,” said former VP (vice-president) of DUCSU Aman Ullah Aman.
Addressing a press conference at Jatiya Press Club, he said in the name of so-called January 5 election, the Awami League led government has driven the last nail on the coffin of democracy and established a one-party government and fascist rule worst than the Ershad regime.Aman, who is also a BNP joint secretary general, said they have decided to hold a student convention comprising the former and incumbent students’ leaders in the city on December 18 as they did on October 1 in 1990.
Aman said the convention would be held at Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh where BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia speak as the chief guest.
The party chairperson will give a directive at the day-long convention to hasten the fall of the government, he said.
“The fascist government has been grabbing the entire nation like octopus. We cannot sit idle at this moment,” he said.
Replying to a question, Aman said besides Chhatra Dal, different components of All-Party Students Unity including Ganotantrik Chhatra League and Jagpa Chhatra League would join the convention.
Chhatra Shibir, the student front of Jamaat-e-Islami was not involved in the All-Party Students Unity during anti-autocratic movement during nineties.
Khairul Kabir Khokan, Habibur Rahman Habib, Nazimuddin Alam, Asaduzzaman Ripon, Saifuddin Ahmed Moni, Khandaker Lutfor Rahman and Asadur Rahman, among others, were present at the function. – Staff Reporter
