Expo focusing South Asia kicks off in Kunming

The annual flagship event for the South and Southeast Asian nations to promote regional trade and investment kicked off in Kunming today.

The 2017 South and Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair (SSACEIF) will be held from June 12 to 18 at Kunming Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center here.

Twelve Bangladeshi entrepreneurs are participating in the expo, showcasing products those included mainly clothing and handicrafts.

Around 4,000 companies from 86 countries are participating in the fair, which has a gigantic 170,000 square meters (over 18 lakh square feet) display area. Half of the area, however, is occupied by 17 special exhibition halls.

Among these halls, South Asian exhibition hall, manufacturing exhibition hall and international sister cities exhibition hall are focusing on the achievements of communications in the field of policies, infrastructures and trades among China and South Asia and Southeast Asia.

There are also tourism exhibition hall, healthy and marine bio pharmaceutical exhibition hall and manufacturing exhibition hall in the special area, making the fair different from many usual others.

Sixteen Kunming enterprises are participating in the fair, including a company using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for plant protection.

A number of seminars, bilateral and multi-lateral talks and business to business meetings will be held on the sideline of the 7-day trade and investment fair.

The fair authorities have put 750 buses on roads and recruited over 2500 volunteers to assist the participants and visitors.

“We hope this fair can deepen the communication on policies, facilities, trade, capital and common aspiration of the people between China and South and Southeast Asian countries,” said Tian Huqin, Deputy Director General of the provincial information office for Yunnan.

At a pre-event press conference, he said the fair would also help promote China’s ‘One Belt One Road’ BCIM (Bangladesh China India Myanmar) economic corridor and Indo-China Peninsula economic corridor, reports AFP, KUNMING, CHINA
