Dhaka, August 22 – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said the intelligence agencies are closely monitoring facebook, twitter, cyber games, WhatsApp and other social media to control all sorts of cyber based militant activities.“Social media including facebook, twitter, cyber games, whatsapp are now under close surveillance to root out militancy and its activities,” he told newsmen after emerging from a meeting of the National Committee on Militancy Resistance and Prevention at his ministry’s conference room here.
Chaired by himself, the 7th meeting of the committee was also attended, among others, by Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque, Secretary of Security Division of the ministry Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed, social welfare ministry’s secretary M Zillar Hossain, Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Abul Hossain, Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard Rear Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Major General Sheikh Pasha Habib Uddin, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benzir Ahmed, Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Asaduzzaman Miah, representatives from Bangladesh Bank, Islamic Foundation and other intelligence units.
Khan said the members of the law enforcement agencies have been asked to remain alert to control militancy and its network as the intelligence agencies and law enforcers with close coordination would take necessary measures to combat terrorism in the country.
“Intelligence unit of Bangladesh Bank (BB) and regular intelligence units have been working to find out sources of the militant’s finance. Bangladesh Bank would submit a complete report within the next two months,” the minister said.
He said other intelligence agencies would also submit their reports about the sources of militancy and its finance in the next meeting, adding, “Intelligence agencies would also monitor involvement of the Rohingyas, infiltrating from Myanmar, in crimes.
Regarding the cases filed against the militant, the minister said the meeting also discussed this matter as to how to dispose of these cases as early as possible.
Besides, he said, the government would also monitor all textbooks of Madrasa education aimed at avoiding any kind of unexpected printing mistakes as well as topic in the text. “We actually want to print complete textbooks for madrasa education.
Asaduzzaman sought the earnest cooperation of all towards a social movement against militancy and terrorism to root out this vice from the country. “Our government is also sincerely working to stop drug smuggling through social movement to protect our generations from addiction,” he said on a query. – BSS
