Faction of pro-AL teachers to besiege JU VC office

Savar (Dhaka), April 26 – A faction of Awami League-leaning teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday launched fresh programs denouncing alleged assault to their fellows during a protest on April 18 and controversial dean-provost appointments.
Amid the ongoing demonstrations, former VC Shariff Enamul loyalists pronounced to lay blockade to the Vice Chancellor’s office on April 30 (Monday) and May 03 (Thursday).The announcement came with up at a press conference, held at Mathematical and Physical sciences faculty building around 12.30pm, under the banner of ‘Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Bishwashi Progotishil Shikkhok Shomaj’.
In the meantime, they also presented a series of demands including immediate election to VC-panel and JU Central Students’ Union (JUCSU), judicial probe into teachers’ assault, removal of proctorial body, calling syndicate meeting and abolition of ragging on campus.
On April 18, six anti-VC teachers were allegedly assaulted by some VC Prof Farzana Islam backed teachers when they were on move to padlock the transport depot as the part of daylong blockade protesting the alleged irregularities of JU VC. – JU Correspondent
