Fakhrul for national unity to ensure fair polls

Dhaka, Jun 2 – BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday urged the political parties to forge a national unity for forcing the government to hold a fair and impartial election.“This government has snatched people’s all rights. They’ve imposed a one-party rule now. Forcing the government to hold a credible and neutral election is the only way to get rid of the situation. We all must create a national unity for it,” he said.
The BNP leader came up with the comment while speaking at an iftar party arranged by Khelafat Majlish at a hotel in National Sports Council Tower.
He said though they have long been calling upon the government to engage in talks with political parties to find a suitable way for holding fair polls, it is not responding to it. “They know they won’t be able to win the election if it is held in a free and fair manner. That’s why they’re conspiring to hold a lopsided election.”
A munajt was offered before the iftar seeking early recovery of Khelafat Majlish’s ailing Ameer Maulana Muhammad Ishaq.
Leaders of the BNP-led 20-party alliance attended the iftar party.
