Farcical and fabricated election under Govt. blueprint: BNP

BNP yesterday complained of massive poll rigging and irregularities in about 1,000 polling centres under 157 municipalities terms the municipal polls.“It was a farcical and fabricated election under the government blueprint to tailor the result in its own favour,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Addressing a press conference at BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan following the poll time, he called upon the Election Commission to hold re-polling in those polling centres where vote rigging were taken place.

“What we have apprehended that the government would hold an election under its blue print has been proven,” he said.

He said it has made them fearful about the present form of democracy after what they have seen in the news and social media the way the voting took place.

“It the face of the democracy of the AL has become such it would be a horrifying,” he added.

The BNP leader said the election was not even held in a fiesta but the election turned into a farce with rampant violence including clashes and shooting.

“We have also witnessed again with apprehension that the the government turned the election into a farce by using all the state machineries,” he said.

He also expressed his apprehension over counting of votes saying that they would change the results even.

Fakhrul called upon the partymen to remain calm and stay at polling centres until the results were not announced.

Replying to a question, he said the party would announce its next course of action within a day or two after discussing the poll situation with senior leaders.

He said the municipal polls proved again that the EC is loyal to the government.
Senior BNP leaders including Dr Moyeen Khan and Dr Osman Faruk were present at the press conference.

Earlier at a press briefing at party central office, BNP joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed accused the ruling party terrors of embarking on a fiesta of occupying polling booths and ballot stuffing under protection of police and joint forces under the cover of administration.
Protesting the killing of Juba Dal leader in Satkania, Chittagong that he was killed by Chhatra League cadres but the law and forcing agencies stood silent as mute spectators.
He also condemned the attacks on party leaders and activists and on duty journalists.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters at Election Commission office, Dr Osman Faruk alleged that a high level rigging has taken place in the municipal polls.
